New NERO 6 worth installing?

i read in the forum that this version carrys some problems, is it worth upgradin into this? and how do i make my own icon :D

Don't be scared- be a brave man!
At worst you will lose some bucks spared on wasted media, and/or perform a full system restore...
I was also extremely happy with Nero 6, cause I used it for 2 hoours, laughed my a$s off with it and then removed it... fortunately enough it went off quite smoothly, which is not the norm.

It's not a free upgrade, so if the last 5.5.10.42 works for you (and is a lot less bloated), then why bother.... Says I, who ran out and bought a discounted 5.5 retail just to trade up with!

V6 is about features, rather than the actual burning - and some that they crow about still mean extra plugin cost.

I'm holding fire until the next update (with 6.0.0.11 demo expiry at the end of this month, it'll be soon) before risking it!

All this Nero problems started to happen from the moment when Ahead hired a former Roxio employee.....coincidence?....Naaaah... :D

Seriously, there is still a lot of work to do before Nero 6 will be as reliable as it's ancester,Nero 5...

I've run into a new bug... it seems there are certain files that will cause Nero to simply blow up and exit when they are dragged into the compilation window. I haven't found rhyme or reason to them yet, but they are consistent.

I have used Nero for a long time and have just recently UN-installed it and have decided to never use Nero again. Ever!!! Beware.

Ver 6 will not burn DVD's properly (never tried it to do anything else), it sorts the files in reverse order then burns them. It now allows you to make a Multisession DVD, there is no such thing and will not play on a DVD Player, that options should be absent or greyed out when burning in UDF format (like in 5.5.x) There are many more issues....

Hmm.. back to 5.5.10.20 that I have been using for DVDR burning for quite some time and all is well again.

This is a Nero patent... and it is WAY out of DVD specifications, never mentioned in any OSTA sheet. The burned disks may work in many OS'es (mainly MS), but no chances for any standalone. You are right, this option should not exist at all (UDF TAO open does the same thing much more safely and with 99.5% compliancy!- in fact RecrdNow pops up a wrning about that remaining .5% element of doubt...). Nero 6 should not exist at all too, but that's another story...

Tell me Nunyobiznes what did you install instead? I also tried Easy CD-DVD 6 but it will only let you burn ISOs. I need to be able to .cue and .bin which Nero will only let me do on normal CD-R. Why doesn't it let me burn .cue and .bin for DVD-R/+R?

Would appreciate anybodys help on the matter. If I uninstall Nero for good, what would be a better, more stable prog?

Tks.

go 4 burnatonce :D
are you guys saying that the new nero is even buggier than the old nero? why doesn't that surprise me?

i'm with serjer on the burnatonce but i still have probs trying to do a multisession with a cdrw. always something that keeps ezcd cremator around. :p i pretty much use bao only for mastering and for audio, though. i use alcohol for all image burning. never had a problem with bin/cue or iso with it.

On the advice of some knowledgeable people I decided to use discjuggler for almost everything and alcohol 120 for creating and burning images. Both work very well and I haven't had any issues so far.

Does Disjuggler allow for multisession for DVDs? This is what I am looking for. If I wait for a 4.7g folder to burn as one then I am running out of space on disc. Need the multisession.

Tks.

I believe so. I think if you uncheck close disc in the advanced menu of the DVD Recoding tab you should be able to add later. I have not tried this myself since I have 4 36GB ultra320 15000rpm scsi HD in raid 5 config. Perhaps someone else may be able to confirm that.

Nope...of course not. Multisession on DVD's is a Nero speciality/stupidity which is way out of OSTA specs. But if you use UDF 1.02 and TAO-open as burning mode the net result is the same, and the burned DVD's are compliant to any filesystem. In fact there is no reason at all to "need" multisession on DVD's, unless you mix up your needs on CD's.
