New Guy Posting!

Yoooooo Guys!

Hey all, I'm new to these boards, and to DVD burning in general, and since this site came highly recommaneded from many friends, I couldn't think of a better place to start! Now don't get the wrong idea, i'm not computer illiterate by any means, and I've had plently of experience burning VCD\SVCD's before with little to no trouble. I have never gotten into any editting programs for them, and am usually just content to simply burn and watch (this is what I'd like to do with my DVD's).

Anyway, i have a AOpen DVD+R+RW, I know it isn't the best burner, but i got a good price on it, and figured it would be alright for burning movies. I was excited to try my first movie, which a friend had provided from a DVD he owns in .img format. The image itself is 4.27gb, and i am having a devil of a time making it work! I've tried many different burning programs, most recommanded from this site (including Roxio, CopyToDVD, Nero, DVD Decrypter, and RecordNowMax) and despite being able to get going with all them, the burning only takes about 20 mins? This made me suspicious, and as I thought, when i tried to play it in my player (which supports DVD+RW's) it loaded, however had a constant downflickering and despite being able to see the picture (through the flickering) it had no colour, however the sound seemed fine. So naturally, I've tried the before mentioned programs, all with similiar results.

All I'm looking for is a simple way to burn both DVD to DVD+RW (i have a DVD Rom as well) and to burn DVD Images (.img). I have access to the before mentioned programs, and any help would be greatly appreciated!

Thanks guys!

Welcome to the forum, you obvioulsy have some smart friends :D

There are many ways of doing what you want. Suggest you have a read in the DVD Tutorial section and have a read up on how to do it all. Some prefer the quick solution of DVD Shrink, DVD2One, DVD X Copy Express, etc, etc while others prefer to get the best quality they can and use progs like DVD2SVCD w/CCE.

As for your *.IMG file, I suggets you ask your friend how he made the file as it sounds like it hasnt been made properly. Get a copy of Isobuster (www.isobuster.com) and load in the IMG file and then extract the VIDEO_TS folder and its contents out. Then try playing it off your PC with, say, WinDVD to see how it plays before committing to burning it.

If CM's suggestion doesn't ferret this out, I would suggest that your DVD player may have problems with DVD+R's... how do you know that your deck is compatible with DVD+R's? Do you have friends that burn them? If so, ask them to burn the same image and see how it works out. Anyway...

1) Turn on data verification in RecordNow Max (or whatever burning prog you are using) and make sure the data verifies.

2) Try playing these DVDs on another standalone, or even on your computer. Do they play correctly?

3) What model standalone do you have?

yo guys, a little update!

1) i checked the DVD player, it's a Pioneer DV-340, and it supports just about every format (including DVD+RW), so i don't believe the problem lies there.

2) i bought a new DVD+RW, i was using the stock one that came with the AOpen burner, but thought perhaps that was garbage, so now i'm using a Verbatim - DataLifePlus, however i have yet to try and burn (will keep you updated)

3) how long does a usual burn take for you guys? i am burning @ 2.4x, so how long should a .img take? as well, how long should a DVD to DVD+RW copy take?

thanks for your input!
