does anybody know any specific differences or improvements of the LiteOn DVD 163D over the 163??

I have seen Model 163 s that were manufactured as late as Jan, 2002.

Any real differences???

The fact that they have same specifications and no reported performance difference but a totally different firmware, leads me to the assumption that they have a different chipset.

I got my 163 last week and it was manufactured in Dec.2001. Normal LTD 163...no D or S

I am very pleased with it cause it is a lot better than my Toshiba SDM1201 succer.

I've noted the drivers for the 163D are no longer listed or mentioned on the LiteOn site.

Does anyone know if this upgrade will work for the 163D or is it just for the 163?

Were the 163D drivers not intended to upgrade the 163 to 163D???

that was my undertstanding. If anybody has any knowledge of this it would be appreciated.

I just got a reply from Lite-On US.

I had asked what the difference is between the LTD 163 and the 163D DVD.

the reply was as follows:
Component vendor phase out the component (pick-up head) and release a new generation component.
