Thanks for reading….
Bit of an odd one this.
Fitted a CD Rom drive to my system, which is dual boot between Win Me and Win 2000 Pro, since fitting Win Me works fine but Win 2000 Pro no longer boots !! ??? !!!
Here are my system specs:
Amd Athlon 2200+ @ 1.8Ghz
256Mb DDR 333Mhz Ram
Ati 7500 x4 AGP 64Mb graphics
TV Capture Card PCI
LiteOn x40 burner 2nd IDE CHANNEL MASTER
LiteOn x16 DVD 2nd IDE CHANNEL SLAVE
40Gb 7200 HDD 1st IDE CHANNEL MASTER
PCI – IDE card
40 Gb 7200 HDD 2nd IDE CHANNEL SLAVE ON PCI-IDE CARD
ZIP 100 drive 2nd IDE CHANNEL MASTER ON PCI-IDE CARD
…and a few other bits and pieces.
I got hold of, for free, a x24 cd drive, nothing flash or fancy, slot mechanism, works fine. As I have the space I thought I would fit it to my computer and hook it up to the 1st IDE CHANNEL as the MASTER ON PCI-IDE card.
Fitted without a problem, switched on and away we go. I run a dual boot and can decide to run Windows Me or Windows 2000 Pro. Both run just fine. I booted to win 2000 pro but just as you hit the screen where it says window is starting (the next screen is your user name/password), the computer restarts. So after a few attempts, I booted to window Me. Not a problem, new Cd drive seen by the computer and works just fine.
I’m a bit puzzled as what ever reason I come up with as to why this isn’t working on windows 2000 pro, as it works on windows Me, it kind of makes me think “nope that’s not the problem”.
If anyone has any ideas, I would appreciate them. The drive is now out of my system. I’ve no real need for it, just it’s there and I’ve got the room to jam it into my computer…LOL. Thought it might come in handy for when the burner is doing something.
Anyway, feedback welcome please.
