new board reccomendations

Ok people,

My Board is crap (Gigabyte GA-8IDML) and I want to replace it but I have PC133 memery and can't afford to upgrade the board and memery at the same time so what I want is a board that runs both PC 133 and DDR (not at the same time as its not possible).
I have 2x256mb installed to make 512mb.

So does anyone have any recommendations about a board i could get, and then I can upgrade my memery later on.

Thanx in advance

Hi,
I would not go for an Elite board if I were you. I had one for a P4 2.2ghz and 1 gig ram. The ransfer rate from the drives is cronic. Example I have 2 80gig drives, and I use drive image pro to backup my system to the second drive, with the Elite board I was getting 99-110 mb a min backup. I had an Intel board before that for a slower processor and new the dramatic drop in speed even with the faster chip. 1.8ghz up to 2.2ghz.
I would go for an MSI or Asus board, very good overclocking,(if you are in to that.) I replaced my Elite with an asus P4b533-e board. (Now it does use DDR) But dong the same thing as above I am getting a transfer rate of 950-1050 mb a min. I backup my Windows 98 and windows XP in 15 mins, and can have it back in the same time. I play around with graphics and the elite was stone dead, if I was working on a large file, not so with the asus. With the price of DDR now it is not going to break the bank for the same amount af ram as you allready have, here in Ireland it is about €46.00 which is about the same as US Dollers.

Best ..................Irish Bear.

MSI

If you go MSI 400 series MB check if it has the bottom of the board IDE connectors and if you have a FULL tower you need EXTRA long CD ribbon cable.
Tip I found on pricegrabber comments PRE receiving my new MB.

NICE place to check COMMENTS!

Consider Elitegroup K7S5A.

My bro has it installed for last 6 months no probs. Its cheap and fairly quick.

(AMD CPU only)
This particular motherboard got rave reviews at Toms Hardware page when it came out some time back. Its gone from strength to strength and for a very cheap and simple m/b you cant go past it. Most of their m/b are a bit suspect, but this is not. I have installed dozens of them in mates/family PC's and all still working fine. It can handle your PC133 mem and also has facilities to handle DDR ram when and if you ever upgrade later.
