Networking.....

Well I have a laptop with a DVD-Rom Drive and a PC with a CDRW Drive. My Question is, How to I Transfer DVD Rips from my laptop to my PC fast? My PC has Win 98 and laptop has win XP. HELP ME PLEASE!

Can you share some more light on the subject?

You DO have a network (LAN) between the two, right?
Rip on the laptop (w/ enough hd space of couse) & encode the unencripted .vob files in the FASTER machine. Then burn.

assume no LAN on this one ... so a slower alternative is Serial Connection, you need a PC to Laptop cable or any serial cable and hook both machines up...
ok, that was the easy bit now we need to find out if Files from Win98 Platform can read or be shared across to Win XP...
ok in Win XP there should be an option in Accessories\Communications i think... or it might be an extra installtion option play around with some of the basic proggies and there should be a proggie there to do a data link from mobile computers or something... then there should be prompts on how the computers are connected and which machine will be host and setup will do the rest...
NOTE: i'm still uncertain that about connection b/w 98 & XP but i know that it is possible with Win 2K
:D

allocate a shared folder on the host computer and it should come up on the Networks folder in the Client Computer... just place files into there and it should then be transfered across to the host...
Good-Luck :D

Good luck on that!

If you're happy that the 2 PC's are networked ok, check you have
file & print sharing set up on at least one PC. On that PC, Right click the drive you want to share and choose sharing. Select Full.

You should be able to see this share from network neighborhood on the other PC (or My network places) - You may have to browse
entire network to find it. Right click & map drive. You can then drag/drop the files you need from My computer/explorer.

Hope this helps.
