I'm not sure this is actually a hardware problem or software problem.
I've recently reinstalled XP on a friends PC. No troubles there, except when the computer trys to connect to the internet. For some reason, windows gave us an automatic IP address, that doesn't match the IP address that my ISP has designated. When I have attempted to repair the connection under network connections, I get a failed attempt each time.
Tech support from my ISP has suggested that I install new drivers for the network card, however my friend doesn't seem to have any CD's with drivers on them. The card is listed under device manager as a: HP EN1207D-TX PCI 10/100 Fast Ethernet Adapter. The PC is an HP Pavilion XT 856, and of course when I searched the HP site, it isn't listing any drivers for that card.
The computer originally came with ME installed, but has been working with XP for about a year now without any troubles. Does anyone have any idea's on how to solve this problem, or where I can locate drivers for this card?
Steps I've taken so far include, using the repair button, unplugging the connection on the back of the modem (this is a highspeed cable connection btw) and on the back of the PC, uninstalling the drivers for the card and rebooting, letting windows install the drivers again. None of this has worked, and unless I can find an easy solution, I'm left with reinstalling the OS again, or replacing the card.
