Nero Oem

Just installed a Lite-On in a computer, 48X. No sweat drivers etc in WinMe. The NERO OEM CD says ONLY for that CD-RW. I am not uisng it but it is SPECIFIC w/drivers I guess.

same thing for mine. 32x. if i understand correctly it is a "bundled" software. meaning that lite-on paid for you to have it and will supposedly only insall on a machine with certain specifications relating to drive type/manufacturer. don't quote me on this but i think it is pretty standard for mfgs to try and limit software installs for their particular drives. i don't think it refers to drivers as such i think it refers to the actual hardware drive itself.

please correct me if this is incorrect.

I'll edit this post myself :D ---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- :D and thats how you can do it for other drives.

The CD is a version that supports the drive, and also places a key for that drive in the registry.

If you extract that key, from the registry, or it's reported to be in file Nbdy5.stp on the CD, then you can at a later date, simply install the latest download and register with that key.

The above is a BUNDLE ver - a "true OEM" has a PRINTED KEYSLIP, or on the inlay, and will work with OEM restrictions (one drive, no crossfade, no multimounter) with ANY drive.

It appears that they do offer an upgrade to "full registered" for a cheaper price than just registering the download.

Of course, it would be fair to comment that KEYGENS EXIST, and if you want to do battle with blacklisting etc., you can find them elsewhere (not on this forum)
Any additional coasters are your problem!

oem versions update just the same as others. Normal users dont need multi-mount etc.
Been using them for years.
Just keep the cd that came with your drive for if u need to format.
(a real possibility with some so called upgrades!;) )
When/if version 6 comes out you probably wont be able to upgrade? but you will get a reduced price, i would think.

It appears that version 5.5 (and even version 5.0) owners will be allowed a free V6 upgrade - though if yopu have a version that works well for you, it may be unwise to tinker. Older version owners have a discount - on registered donwload OR with a retail CD (but probably not retail packed?)

I am a habitual versionitis sufferer though, although my 5.5.9.14 seems to be pretty damn good (upgraded from 5.5.3.0 BUNDLE).
I really couldn't point out what actually changed, IF ANYTHING, between the two!

The MAIN points in a Nero version update are normally drive support, plus fixing bugs introduced by the last update and introducing bugs to be fixed by the next - and now they seem to work to a fixed demo validity period, providing a current demo!

hmmm maby i should dig out my v3.xx and see if it will upgrade lol even tho i use 5.5.9.0 that i got with my plex i have an original 3.xx somewhere too lol :)

hehehehe

I am only trying to instigate info about what is out there. No KGs needed. I ran OEM w/my drive for ages them decided to tinker and see what all there is and bought NTI. Not even the OEM I played with.

The main reason for upgrade from ahead is actually blacklisting serials etc. The other stuff is usually incidental.

The 5/5.5 update is as reported by CCampbell (the Ahead Guy) in CDRINFO forum.

Ver 3/4 upgrade (registered download) price is $19 - otherwise registration is a whopping $49

Though poorly documented (FAQ references are vague) it apperas the same price is also applicable to BUNDLE/OEM to full registered.

It would pay to buy THIS

Even if it won't work with your drive - and then get the bundle to full upgrade

Refer to THIS page if they quibble

@Poko - can't remember if you like Nero or hate it?
