Nero crashes when I try to burn

Hello all,

I just bought a DVD burner about a week ago, and every single time I attempt to burn a DVD nero crashes during the "file caching" stage. (about 1-2 seconds into the burn). I've gone through the forum, and tried a lot of things. Here are my system specs:

AMD Athlon XP 1700+ (1.46 ghz)
512 MB ram
GeoForce 4 TI
Hi-Val 4x DVD burner (the one giving me issues)
Pacific Digital 48X burner
These share a cable, the PD is the master

30 GB HD
Mother Board = "Mico-star international"
chipset 1 = VIA technologies inc
bus = ISA AGP PCI 1mb

That's all I can think of right now, if you want any more info just ask and I'll find it.

This si what I've tried so far to fix the problem:

I installed the "forced atapi" program
I updated the furmware for the DVD+/- drive
disconnected the other cd-rom to attempt another burn
bought different media.

Also, I can't seem to get into the "advanced" tab to active DMA on the drive. When I go to the device manager/IDE ATA//ATAPI and right click on the controller I don't see an "advanced" for any of the three controllers. The 3 ones shown are:
"Primary Untra ATA/ATAPI Channel"
"Secondary Ultra ATA/ATAPI Channel"
"VIA Bus Master Ultra ATA Controller (dual mode)"

Lastly, after I installed the force atapi software windows XP began detecting another drive. The ones I should have are:

"CD-RW CD-R SW48 SCSI CdRom Device" and
"GENERIC DVD DUAL 4xMax SCSI CdRom Device"

but after I installed force atapi this begain showing up:
"AXV CD/DVD-ROM SCSI CdRom Device" and I can't seem to remove it.

Does anyone know what I should do to resolve this problem?

The AXV CD/DVD-ROM SCSI CdRom Device is from Alcohol 120% its called a virtual drive, which is good to test bin & cue file. Have you updated to the lastest VIA drivers? Have you tried some of woodys tips? Like turn of XP burning software
As far as DMA goes you have to right on the Channels not the controller to be able to enable it. Try that and let us know how you make out. :)
