Nero Burn Speed on Pioneer 106 Writer

I'm having a problem whereby, i'm using Nero 6.0.3.2. with my Pioneer 106 Writer, but when copying 'on the fly' it starts the process but appears to be actually writing at 1x as opposed to 4x on a DVD copy

It does the same on a CD copy it should write at 16x but takes ages and finally hangs, BUT if i burn from the hard disk it's writes at the correct speed.

This is happening on 3 other users Pc's also they gave the same writer and version of NERO

I've checked the IDE/ATA modes and they are correct.

Any Ideas would be most appreciated.

Cheers

Ok

First off all you shouldnt use on the fly use the HDD...
Secondly have you tried updating the firmware of you Pioneer 106.. latest is 1.07..

Also what speed media are you using...

Regards

I have another writer, a Pioneer 105 in my other box, and that burns at 4x fine on DVD copies and at 16x for CD's 'on the fly' (never had an issue)

The only difference is that i'm using Nero 5.5.5.10 on the box with the 105 in.

My friends only got his writer the other day and it's got V1.07 firmware on it, whereas mine is 1.06.

I'm using BulkPaq 4x, and Ritek 4x , have also tried other brands.

I don't actually know it's burnign at 1x speed as it says it's writing at 4x on a DVD copy, but it gets to around 75% after an hour and stops responding. I can't understand why it only seems to happen on the fly ????

Regards

Upgrade your firmware to 1.07...
Mines did the same thing its working with 4x media perfectly fine...

Copying On the Fly is not a problem with the 106 BUT

U need a GOOD DVDROM (I have LiteOn)
Your ROM & 106 MUST be on opposite IDE cables
The 106 Prefers (no needs) to be the master on its cable (ensure jumpers are set correctly)
A Reasonably fast processor

I have no problems:)

Hi mojo8850

My friends got the V1.07 firmware and his is doing the same thing. Will give it a go though.

The -Poacher

I have a Panasonic DVD-ROM (also reads DVD-RAM) , infact have the same DVD-ROM in my other box with 105 in and that's perfect. They are on seperate IDE cables, the Writer being the Master on the secondary IDE. As I mentioned earlier 3 of us are having same problem, all using different DVD-ROM drives abut same writer and version of NERO.

Any other clues ??

All I can Add is I NEVER use NERO for copying prefer Alcohol 120% or RecordNowMax

Also make sure your ASPI is OK & if in XP disable XP burning (search Forum will give U loads on these)

Well I have now tried RecordNowMax and that start off ok, then the estimated time jumps to 200mins or something silly. Also tried other software same problem , it's as if the buffer read / write is going whacky.

Even updated to the official Pioneer firmware 1.07. This si confusing the hell out of me. Updated my BIOS also incase it was that.
