Nero 6316 Locking Up

Hi, I am new to this forum, and a complete newbie to burning cd's.
So please bear with me.

I purchased Nero online.

I can burn VCD just fine. Works in my DVD player and all.

When I try to burn a "data cd", Nero locks up, better yet, just stops responding. No errors are reported. I have to physically restart my machine, "start/restart" does not work.

How it goes:
Buffer guage at the top flows to 99-100%
The Process guage (one below buffer) goes to 50%
The burner's light flickers for about 2-5 seconds
Then nothing else happens. The cd tray will not open, Nero does not respond, I have to "cntrl/alt/del" to shut down Nero, then I have to restart my machine.

I have put this question to Nero Tech Dept, but I've yet to receive a response. It's been three days now.

My system:
Win2k sp4
AMD K6-2 1.7
256 ram
TDK VeloCD CDRW8432
WinMedia9

I've had other burning programs before:
Easy CD (uninstalled)
Sony Image Maker (just uninstalled)
Previous demo Nero (uninstalled)

I'm not sure what else to tell you.

Hi jamnw, Welcome to our forum!

1. please attach the Nero log file here (but delete your included serial no.); so we can see, if there are still some conflicting burning drivers present;

2. ensure DMA is enabled for your drives (IDE controllers) in Window's device manager;

3. and please tell us your hardware configuration, e.g.:
1. channel 80-wired cable, master: system HDD, slave: storage HDD (if present)
2. channel 40-wired cable, master: "TDK VeloCD CDRW8432", slave: DVD-Rom (if present)

4. tell us which chipset your motherboard contains (e.g. VIA KT133 or NVIDIA nForce2) and what chipset drivers you have installed;

5. disable your AntiVirus software before starting the burning process;

6. use Nero's simulation function or use CD-RW media, so you don't waste discs as long your problem isn't solved;

That's the file from Nero Info that I submitted to Nero.
I didn't see the serial number in that file. I sure hope I didn't miss it.

I'm not sure what you're asking for on the "channel 80" ,and "channel 40".
I'm thinking that info is in that file I posted above.
Are you asking what drives I have and if they are master or slave?

I have already tried disabling the anti-virus software.
Which is McAfee.

I also tried re-installing Nero, but that didn't help either.

Problem solved!

DMA was not seclected for neither of the drives on my secondary IDE channel.

It was PIO.... I know what DMA is, but I've never heard of "PIO".

Something... Input/Output?

Not 100% sure, but I think PIO is "Programmed Input/Output"

There are DMA speeds that match the PIO ones, but impose less CPU overhead, while the Ultra tends not to have an equivalent PIO mode.

Under PIO, every byte of data is administered by the system CPU, while in DMA, the system CPU sets up the block transfer, and then the interface administers it by busmastering - while the processor can continue with other tasks.

Indeed, the EZCD Cremator drivers and registry entries are still there- as expected. You must remove them (delete them) and then run "Nero Registry Checker" to fix the filter reg entries and reboot.

Killing the Roxio drivers. I'm assuming that will just disable the burning option in WinMedia 9.

As far as deleting the registry entries for EZCD Cremator (good one).
Do I just do a registry search for any entries of that program, and delete them all?

also,good idea if you are not syre what the prob is to install a feurio,couse its got excelent diagnostic utility,for exampel you can disable any driver you wish.but be very carefull what are you doing

you are right; But whats the profit of burning Audio CDs with WMP? you better do this with burnatonce, EAC or even with Nero;

Hmm.. i have nero 6 and winoncd 5 installed on the same system and i have no probs with the roxio drivers.
