Nero 5590 Multi-session data image (?MB)

Nero 5590 Multi-session ISO data CD (?MB)

Messed up three CDs thus far I think because I am unable to add more tracks due to (?MB)

Can't seem to find MultiMounter to read other tracks on previous CD - don't see the 'Volumes' Tab

I am trying to burn more than one data image to a CDR with Nero 5590 (Upgraded from 5571 bundled) on W2K

First burned image files (*.NRG) to hard disk
Had to defrag hard disk because at one stage Nero would not even burn image file

Started New multi-session with defaults and burned first session.

Coming back for 2nd session it will not allow selection of any track.

Medium information reports Session 01 (?MB) and
Track 01: 00:02:00 43:13:00 (?MB). Data

Would like to fill up a CD with large folders containing data but still not enough to fill CD completely and would like to add more data to same CD later.

After RTM It seemed that multi-session was the way to go because initially I would only see the last track written doing something different?

Please advise what the best approach would be to burn multiple data folders

Sincerely

Seems to me the only approach to burn multiple folders over time on the same CD is to follow the instructions on Multi-session as stated in the manual.

Where I went of the track was to prepare an image file first whilst all I had to do was to make an ISO compilation (Data CD) and burn from HD with Close CD option disabled. :)

For the benefit of other newbies herewith the TOC from the manual on this subject.

6.4 Data CD (Multisession) 31
6.4.1 General 31
6.4.2 How are Multisession CDs structured? 32

I m having problems with this version of nero also.I burn a multi session compalation using the wizard no worries .then when I go to add some more data it says you need the disc from the current compalation that its just read and sometimes it says need cdrw instead of cdr?Can anyone else suggesr a compaltion program 2 make sure its not the burner?Burms mpegs to vcd ok and clone cd is working ok its like it finalizes the cd every time!burner is a richo mp7163a

Cheers Tony

Hi Tony

Despite what the manual above says, I still can not get Multisession to work.

Initially I thought the reason was because I tried to burn multisession images. That is a No No

With ISO Data CD compilation I am still
unable to select a track to continue multisession writing

When you see (?MB) you are in trouble because you can not select the track to continue with.

Apparently EZCD creator does the job but havn't found it yet to try out.

Wonder if anybody knows if Nero 5582 is actually a better option

Hi nkwewas using 5582 before no problems have not bin able to back uptrack multisession since 5590 even reinstall 5582 looks like a re format job everything eles works ok!

Cheers Tony

From posts all over it seems that very few people had real success with Multi-session and then there is also the Nero version issue where the lastest is not always the greatest. With Nero it seems if a version works for you stick with it - newer versions mostly add new burners.

Burning at half of the rated speed, for example burn at x8 when you have x16 in the burner give the best results with multisession.

Too soon to tell but after a defrag and half speed burn managed to get a Multi-session CD.

Just wonder if something like Clean Sweep from Norton System works will clean out 5990 and allow clean install of working 5882.

?!?!? im trying to get my head round this are you trying to make a multi session cd with nero or you trying to make and image /iso image file and burn that to disk then add another iso/image file to the same disk afterwards ?!!?

if yer just after making a multi session of folders of files you dont have to make an image file or nrg file before burning !? just start a multisession data cd and add the files to the compilation as normal makin sure when it comes to burning you do not have "close the disk/session" ticked and burn the disk then when you next come to use the disk choose continue multi session and it will load the last session ready to add more files keep doing this till the disk is full or till you are happy with the content :D

not that each session takes up a certain amount of disk space for each session to be written both in and out /opened/closed so the disk can still be read in any cd rom drive at any time !:D

i dont know if this is what you are attempting here !?

U are 100% right :) In the Nero quick start guide it said something about writing images to HD first and then burn them to Cd and perhaps come back later and burn another Cd with same image.

Where I went completely in the wrong direction was to try and burn more than one image (NRG) files to the same Cd using multi-session and then ending up with the (?MB) situation after the first session because I did not do a Data Cd (ISO compilation) but Image (NRG) which I now know one must not do if you plan to add some more folders later.

The only question I do have know is about the compilation. After the first session is written, one gets the option to save the ISO compilation. Must this saved ISO compilation be on HD in order to continue with the compilation or would nero read the contents of the previous session from the burned Cd anyway?

From what you say" it will load the last session ready to add more files" I presume it is not necessary to save the previous ISO compilation on HD?

NOPE is the simple answer you dont have to :D i never do :D it just prompts you that the disk is multisession and do you wish to add to this compilation (note here you can let it automatically update the files and only add the files that are newer than the previous versions ! it prompt to do this if neccessary :D ) so saving the iso is not needed :D i cant think of a reason why you would want to do this unless you intend to reburn the same files at a later date !? seems strange as you could just copy the entire disk !?

Anyhow i dont and i just add to a sessional disk until its full !!:D note for each session it needs to write the disk lead in and the disk lead out so it can still be read in other drives and each time it does this it uses approx 25 meg apparently !? so just keep a note of how much disk space you have got left when nearing the end of the disk !! :D just watch the bar along the bottom edge of the compilation for how much disk is used :D

As you quite rightly state NERO does indeed read the previous data from the disk when adding new files :D

just choose continue multisession from the wizard :D

note here when compiling sessions make sure you dont tick close disk when ending a session untill you near the end of the disk or you will not be able to add more to the disk !! :D

Hi all "note here when compiling sessions make sure you dont tick close disk when ending a session"Never had to play with this setting in the past just use the wizard Its still stuffed starts a complation but doesent continue says need the previouse compalation?reads it ok only when you go to burn?dont even no where that setting is!

Cheers Tony

Many thanks for all UR advice :)

Once one knows how Nero multisession works it is quite simple.

Doing it the first time right is not so easy. What U have just contributed is what was missing in the manual. Agree with U the only possible reason why one would save the ISO compilation is if U want to burn it again.

For example burning more than copy of the same 30 Mb database every once and a while for different people on more than one Cd with the intention to keep writing to these Cds until they are full.

Thanxs again
