Nero 5.5.9 Burn Speed Priorities with Other Burning programs.

I never have used nero 5.5.9. I have always used Music Match 8, and Easy cd Creator. I now have A Sony 400 Mega Disc storage player and it uses CD-Text. I have started using Nero now to make those CD-text cd's. The problem is that it seems that I cannot burn faster than 8x in my Music match, Easy Cd Creator and any other Recorder. I understand Nero 5.5 only burns 4 & 8 so somehow it has enabled the ability for my other software to burn at higher than 8x when I use that particular sofware. In my preferences in the non Nero software I set it at 24x or Max, but it still burns at 8x. The Burner always burned 24x before I installed this Nero 5.5. Now I can't get it to burn faster in the other programs. Even Clone CD burns only at 8x. Is there something I can do to correct this. My burner is NEC NR-7900A

i don't believe Nero effects this;
however, grab the latest free Nero 5.5(.10.56) update there: http://www.ahead.de/en/631933457317970.html
go sure DMA is enabled for your drives/IDE channels: http://www.dvdrbase.com/showthread.php?t=32137
disable "Optimum Write Speed Control" in Nero > Recorder > Choose Recorder > Options
disable the "Hide TOC/Media" function in CloneCD-Tray or Alcohol 120%;
finaly use quality media;

if this all won't help, then check Sony's homepage for a firmware update;
