Need some help with Dvd to Dvd-R methods

I'm having a few problems getting grips with Dvd burning. I've read some of the guides and tutorials both from this site and from DvdR-Help.

I've successfully backed up a DVD5 no problem using Dvd Decrypter.

The problems come when I either want to backup a DVD9 or am trying to create a Dvd from another source - i.e Mpeg from a Vcd/Svcd or from Divx.

I've looked at Dvd Shrink but the Re-Author options doesn't allow me to keep the menu. The full backup of the Dvd reduces the quality and keeps the trailers which you often find inclduded on DVDs from the local video store. I'd like if possible to backup the disc, keep the menu and some of the extras and keep the compression to at least 70% along with the AC3-6 sound.

I would also like to make a Dvd with a very simple menu form sources such as Vcd/Svcd. I can get the .dat/.mpg from the disc using Isobuster and then join the files with TMPGEnc. I'm just a bit lost from there as to the best method of getting the files to Mpeg2 and getting them on a Dvd with a menu that either just says 'play' or possibly has a chapter after every 10/15 minutes of film.

I'm a bit baffled as to what to do from there and I'm currently on a bit of an overload from reading so much these past few days.

My system is fairly well spec'd and is running WinXP. I'm using a Lite-On 451S burner with Ritek DVD-R media at 4x. I'm testing my Dvd-Rs on my Ps2 but would like to do discs which are compatible with the majority of Dvd players as I also own a Pacific and a Toshiba Dvd player. The software I have installed is

Nero v6.0.0.28
Roxio Easy CD & DVD Creator v6
Latest Dvd Shrink
Latest Dvd Decrypter
TMPGEnc Plus
TMPGEnc Dvd Author
DVD X Copy Platinum <-- Doesn't work correctly.

I'd like to keep it fairly simple but if someone could point me in the right direction with some sound advice then I've no problem following instructions. I'm just getting to the point now where I'm pulling my hair out. Any advice would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks in advance.

I pretty good program is DVD Lab. You can make your own professional look Menu and it converts MPEG2 for you. You can search for 'DVD Lab' on google. It's pretty easy once you get the hang of it.

Thnaks very much for the suggestion but I heard that that particular bit of softwate reduces the overall quality of the film.

If you can vouch for the fact that it doesnt then I'll take a look at it.

Thanks for the advice.
