need some advice about putting dvd on pc and converting it to 1 simple mpeg or avi

hi im fairly new to this but basically ive got a couple of dvds which are copy protected and i would like to simply copy them to my hardrive which i can do but i wanna convert them to one simply file rather then all seperate vob files or whatever they are called also i would like some advice in regards to compressing dvds to put them on a cd ive tried using dvd squeeze but aint getting much luck out of it any help would be great cheers

DVD Squeeze is a rip off.
DVDxCopy is only for duping DVD to DVD (or 2 as the case maybe).
Alcohol 120% is just for burning... Although there were plans for a video encoding plugin called ice alcohol or something like that.

I would suggest reading some tutes and coming back when you have some more specific questions.

Personally I would run the VOB's through DVD2AVI, creating a d2v and demuxing the AC3.

I would then convert the AC3 to mp2 (if going for mpg) or mp3 (if going for AVI) using BeSweet or HeadAC3e, encode the video with TMPGEnc (for MPEG1) or VirtualDubMod (for AVI), then multiplex/mux the audio with the same programs, although for the AVI I would do the audio as the video encoded (2nd Pass).

If your only goal is to have a single file then you could just rip to a single VOB (assuming the file is < 4GB's or you have an NTFS drive).

There are much easier and less complicated ways to do the above (I like to do things the hard way), like I said do some reading.
