blane, i honestly dont see why not these chips have legitimate uses, if someone choses to abuse it that is their responsibility not ours.

it isnt warez any more than a legitimate copy of windows is even if someone decides to run warez on it.

Yes ABCMan, It is a fine line we now walk trying to be legit. But, then using your example can we then give out a link to a keygen,serial,or warez and not be concerned if someone choses to use it or not. Just a thought.

you are of course correct, i'm working on the fact that a modchip is a piece of hardware (with legaly produced software on it) therefore a modchip would be perfectly legalon here but for example a dvd rip kit or a patch/fix file would not, obviously keygens and the like dont apply to consoles. We will have the same problem with legal legitimate fair use backups of console games since we are allowed to discuss techneques to create a backup but not provide any details about any patch files that may be needed to run those backups, personaly i think that discussion of copying a cd should be in the cdr software section now and not in here which of course would mean no discussion was allowed in this section.

I can see that we need to get our heads together on this one and come up with a suitable set of rules to be posted that are in keeping with the board rules but account for the special circumstances that consoles are in (ie not needing cracks/keygens) we also need to toe the fine line that allows news and reviews and discussion of such things with the removal of posts relating to rip kits and patches but allows PATCHERS (yes their is a difference;))

Im in australia and ABCman is right just went legal the other days the ads in the paper for moding you PS2 etc just went threw the roof to :D

Yeah, I agree that there is definitely a difference between chipping a console and cracking a prog. But, there goes that fine line again. It all depends on the usage and thats something that we can't control.
