need help to restore avi's and mpgs backed up on cdr's

i backed up a lot of my avi's and mpgs on to cd's (as data); i used adaptec cd creator to burn them; now, to my huge dismay, i found out that many of the cd's are not viewable when i try to watch them; sometims, i have 3-4 files in 1 cd, and some i can view and some it just freezes the computer until i eject it;

now, please tell me that there 's a program out there that will be able to restore all those files; otherwise, i'd be so upset; so much time taken in dl and archiving them!!

Thanks!

Also, my CD rom drive lately makes a real loud sound when i stick a cd in (it's much louder than it normally does anyway); it sounds as if there's a piece of paper stuck in there and the fan is blowing right at it; how should i fix that?

im not sure what u mean but, copy the .avi file to ur hd c:\ and then use a program called DivFix version 1.07 is the newest.. it can reconstruct the avi header then u wil be able to watch the movie in wmp

-This program was created to be able to watch partially downloaded DivX (AVI) movies.
It can rebuild or strip the index part of the movie, which is at the end of the file.
There are also a basic error detection, which can detect serious errors in the audio/video
stream.-

here can u get it *ww.divx-digest.com

but if its ur cd/cdrom thats the problem.. then i cant help :(

-sorry for the direct link- :)

thanks a lot mafiaman for your help; i certainly will try the avifix, but the problem i have is not so much on the avi but more on the data of the cd'r being corrupted (btw, for those of you who don't know, be careful of compusa brand cdr's; i have had A LOT of compusa cdr 's going bad);

it apparently got corrupted somehow; when i first tried to watch them directly from the cd's, it froze, so i tried to copy the files to the hd as a way to get around it, but it took a very long time to copy and when it's halfway done,the computer says that it can't read the cd; so i am hoping to find some kind of data recovery programs that would do the trick.

thanks again for your help.

hey fishquest buddy,

the badcopy pro program works!! i did manage to recover the files from the CD.

Thanks so much!! I hope to be able to return the favor.

BTW, i really enjoy this forum; people have always been extremely helpful and nice - have not had a bad experience at all.

Glad to help :D

And thanks for trying this one out for me, so I didn´t need to "beta-test" it myself...

Guess the proggie finds a new home at my essential utils-directory....;)
