Ok guys,I have been capturing episodes of my favorite TV show that are in .AVI format and are roughly 350 to 351 MBs of drive space each.

My question is,what conversion direction do I need to go to get say 8 to 10 episodes on a single DVD-r.

I have read and searched and there is just such a plethora (been wanting to use that word for SO long :) ) of information about so MANY different formats and conversion factors that smoke is spewing out of both ears about this time.

I dont need to be particularly spoon fed,but if someone could just point me to an example or in the right direction it would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks,

Edit:thought I might add system specs if it would be of any help...

WindowsXP PRO
SATA 250GB MAXTOR(system drive)
ATA100 80 gb seagate(storage and pagefile)
ATA100 80 GB maxtor (storage)
nvidia Gforce FX5200
Toshiba SD-R5272 DVD writer

Thanks for the reply PcGuy,Its greatly appreciated. What I was more refering too was is it possible to convert these .avi's to a format that will keep them small as they are now, around 350MB even 700 would be acceptable. What I am finding now is that after converting them to mpeg2 the files are grosly large, around 1.8GB a episode in the highest resolution(yes,I really want this to look as good as possible, hence the high resolution :D )

At that size I would only be able to get 2 episodes on a DVD,when I was looking to get around 8 to 10.

If this is not possilbe without dual layer and cutting into the quality, then I guess Ill have to simply leave it alone.

Thanks in advance for any light shedding infomation :D ,

Yep, just use the DivX to DVDR Tutorial (based on DVD2SVCD w/ CCE) but in Bitrate tab, set the CD size to be 1/6 th (for 6 eps per dvdr) of the dvdr size of 4440. ie. set to 740. Encode each avi separately to its own folder, I would use batch mode here. Then just author the results in TMPGEnc DVD Author and make your menu to enable selecting each episode.

Just an update, thanks to the help I got here,I just made my first multi episode DVD with custom menu and all!!

And to my suprise,it actually played on my FIRST generation DVD player!!Im talkin OLD dvd player,it has that divx (no not THAT divx, that crappy pay per veiw idea that failed pathetically:D )

Thanks again for all the help everyone, and I will work on contributing back by making a specific guide for what I did. Thanks PCguy and Chickenman!!!

Interesting - DIKO starts a trail to some other neat free stuff, like Freeenc, QuEnc and others, although it seems impossibly to find a truly definitive homepage - while CinemaCraft (CCE) seems to be the most highly rated encoder, at least there are alternatives to putting up with a watermark, or paying rather high prices.

DIKO was made by one of the staff at KVCD forum, so thats where it resides. DVD to DVDR can also be done with QuEnc using ReBuilder. I've tried it a couple of times, quite good actually.
