I have the same problem. Here's what mine display
[boot loader]
timeout=15
default=multi(0)disk(0)rdisk(0)partition(1)WINDOWS
[operating systems]
I'm running Window XP Pro, should I change [operating systems] to [Window XP Professional]?

I'm only running XP pro and this is what mine reads:

[boot loader]
timeout=30
default=multi(0)disk(0)rdisk(0)partition(1)\WINDOWS
[operating systems]
multi(0)disk(0)rdisk(0)partition(1)\WINDOWS="Microsoft Windows XP Professional" /fastdetect

Ok, so I added the line after [operating systems] as you have but I still get the dual boot menu. When I look at the boot.ini file I do not see the second OS, how do I go about finding where the second OS is and how to get rid of it without reformatting? Sorry for the many questions and I truly appreciate any help on this matter.

How did you put the second OS on the pc? Also what is the other OS? Is it all install on one HD with multi partions? Also which OS went on first?

WinXP Pro was installed originally. I installed a M-Audio card and the computer would not boot up. I removed the card and the computer still wouldn't boot up. I put in the WinXP cd to repair the boot sector but I think I messed it up. I managed to edit the boot.ini file in DOS and got the computer to boot up but I think I partially installed WinXP again instead of repairing it. Did I screwed this up royally?

The problem is the bad OS is the 1st choice on the boot menu. If I change the timeout value to 0 Windows automatically boot to the bad OS. Can I switch the order of the default OS on the boot menu?

for sure you can do that; but if i look at your postet boot.ini above, i can see only one OS entry there:
default=multi(0)disk(0)rdisk(0)partition(1)WINDOWS

So which is the "bad OS" and what's the valid one?

THAT'S precisely my problem. I can only see 1 OS in my boot.ini but I'm keep getting the dual boot menu although the 2nd OS does not seem to exist. How can I search for and delete the 2nd OS?

Thanks! That did it! I was missing a "\" in my boot.ini. I replaced it and now it works fine. Thanks again Duracell!
