need help extracting text from a scanned document

1/ i have a word document that i have scanned with paintshop pro into .jpg; then i print it to adobe distiller as a pdf and then convert it to .rtf via bcl drake ( i know it's a long winded process, but i dont know a more efficient way to get text from a hard copy); anyway, i have tried it once or twice in the past and it worked but now in the .rtf format, i can't seem to highlight the text so that i can cut and paste the raw text.

Anyone know a better way?

2/also, on a brochure, there are diff. pictures, and i want to extract one of the pictures and use it as logo; what's the easiest way to grab just that picture from that page?

Thanks.

The usual way of gettin text into a computer is using OCR (optical chartacter recognition ) software to identify the letters on the page and convert it to editable text :)

but if you cannot rescan this image there is software out there that can sometimes grab most if not all text from an image sucj as WISE IMGAGE pro that does this :)

If you want to grab just 1 picture when scanning choose the preview scan option scan the image and usually in your scanning software it will show a smaller image in the selection window with a scaleable drag box to select the area you require by dragging this box around it and scanning just that area :)

some scan packages allow a freehand lasso like paint shop pro uses for drawing an area freehand to select an area to scan on the preview image :)

thanks viper, i have heard of OCR technology and i prob. have something like that somewhere; the thing i dont understand is why it used to work before tho; i scanned the pic and in adobe, there's a column that says plugin and that's when it used bcl drake to convert to rtf;

MOST popular package for O.C.R. seems to be the OMNI PAGE PRO series :)

usually you get O.C.R. software with your scanner software :)
