Need Advice on Ripspeed/new DVD ? IDE CTRLR?

Okay - here's the deal.
I cannot choose dma on or off - because i got Intel onboard ide controller (believe me - i tried every trick described in here).

I got a Pioneer 106 DVD-/+ R drive and a Asus 616 DVD Rom

I found the firmware for my Pioneer - that makes it region free and removes Rip Speed limit. So - on my DVD -/+R i can rip about 7-8 x speed - but on my Asus i still are snailing away on max 2xspeed.

I feel like my Asus should do it faster - since the Pioneer can.

But what would be the best thing to do ?
I want to stop ripping on my DVD -/+R drive - so.....

Should i get another DVD ROM (is there anything that rips faster than 2xspeed)
Or should i by a seperate PCI IDE UDMA 133 Controller and hook my DVD drives up on that one ? and leave my HD's on the onboard Intel controller ?

Any serious Suggestions ?

Im using XP pro as OS.
Well - and i found out - after searching on the WWW - that many DVD Roms come with the 2xspeed rip limit - it was made so the drive would not spin up and make noises if you was playing an original dvd.

I know Toshiba got a "No Limit" firmware out. But i have had no luck in finding one for mu Asus 616

Like RASTABT said if you can get a new drive then you´ll got a quick solution, I prefer the Lite-On instead the Toshiba because it can ripp up to 7x right out of the box without needing any flashing and for the low prices of those drives you get a longer life for your burner.

My Sony burner rips at about 3.5X, and I also have a Toshiba 1712 DVD-ROM which does not go much faster... my best ripper ever was surely a Lite-On 163 DVD-ROM, which died when a power failure occured (was ripping at that time, so the death is pretty understandable). The newer models are equally good if not better, so I can warmly recommend it.

If so - i will be heading out tomorrow to buy. (just sold my Asus drive 10 minutes ago)

JLMS XJ-HD165H this is the last current model around here and is what I´m using right now in my main system, also have another LTD-165H wich is almost identical in every aspect.

It´s like scarecrow said new drives from Lite-On are equal or better.
