NEC ND-2500A firmware 1.07 problems

Hi all,

I've just recently bought a NEC ND-2500A DVD writer. Its my first and therefore no experience of DVD installation or copying. Anyway, to cut a long story short, i've managed to install it with the help of guys/gals from this forum. The drive has firmware 1.06 adn i downloaded version 1.07 and tried to flash the drive to that. After doing this, the computer seems to only recognise the drive as a DVD-ROM only and CDR/RW, where as with version 1.06, it recognised it as DVD-R.

Have i done something wrong? This is becoming a bit infuriating as i'm still to burn my first DVD :(

Where is it recongnized as DVD-ROM only? if in Windows' device manager then this is quite usual, but always your burning software (?) should see it as burner;

I agree windows likes to mess with you. Like Duracell said what does your burning software see it as?

With regards to the earlier query...the NEro software only recognises as a CDR/RW device and DVD ROm. It doesn't give me the option to burn a DVD-R/RW.

Being a biginner to DVDV burining, i also followed the Tips for Biginners...DVD backups by Woody. It suggested that i run aspick.exe and update with the latest forceaspi. Having done the former, my computer showed that i had version 4.57 Adaptec Aspi layer installed. I downloaded the latest version forceASPI18 (version 4.72?).

Having followed the instructions and run INSTASPI, it seems there was some problem in installing this latest version. :( A message showed that access to (i think) ASPI32.SYS was denied. Re-running aspichk showed that only version 4.72 for WINASP.DLL and WOWPOST.EXE was installed, with N/A for WNASPI32.DLL and ASPI32.SYS.

I thougt this may be because some software was running which preventing INSTASPI accessing ASPI32.SYS files and therefore closed down Sphos Intercheck and WinZip and re-run the whole installation process.

No joy with this either. Any help would be much appreciated on both the above queries.
:(

Came your Nero CD bundled with an other drive? so it could be limited to that old drive;
and please update to the latest 5.5.10.56: http://www.ahead.de/en/631933457317970.html

oh no, don't use the latest one; ForceASPI 1.8 / Adaptec's 4.72 are a "mess up";
please use the good "old" ForceASPI 1.7; also read there, please: http://www.dvdrbase.com/showthread.php?p=200107
after all recheck with aspick.exe;
