NEC ND-110a speed setting problem

I just bought NEC ND-1100a drive only. The drive is manufactured february 2003. This is a 4x DVD+R and 2,4x DVD-RW writer.

My pc shows me the following info:

_NEC DVD+RW ND-110 A

firmware 1.A0

I'm running WinXP Pro and the drive is recognised instantly.
I want to burn a dvd+r disk.
But when I use Nero 5.5.10.15 to burn the only write speed I can select is 2 x (2.760 kb/sec).

What to do to get 4 x??
Please help.

I feel stupid

Nope I dodn't use 4x speed media!!!
This is what u get from a newbie who is used to cd recording
where you can adjust the speed setting. With dvd writing
is another ball game...

Untill now I have succesfully burned 3 DVD+R discs at 2.4x
with the NEC writer. It's time for more....

Stop feeling bad, my friend...

Have the same kind of problems with that drive. Made in February,OEM (by the way in general terms OEM means "we told you you were buying it your own risk, dumb, so ask us if we care!") Also reported by Bios, Windows and DVDinfo http://www.nicsoft.com.au/dvdinfo.html) as

_NEC DVD+RW ND-1100A with 1A0 firmware.
Such a lone star of a DVD recorder.

Have not tried any DVD+R because I have not got one in my hands. But if you're as curious as I am, you will notice that Nero,
in DVD mode in this drive, only reports 1X ans 2X, no matter what speed is your media. Really weird in a drive that promised 4X. Well, you can't be surprised: remember it also promised both DVD-R and DVD+R? What really bother me is: it now fails to make a Nero or DiscJuggler CD compilation. In a fresh Windows XP installation. In Nero, it stops in 4% or 5% of the cache writing, at least it does not mess up the blank cd-r. Disc Juggler really does, because it stops in 4% ofwriting. Nti-CD maker does not recognizes it as a writer (the NTI website says it works! Well, we'd admit we bought it for its wonderful low price, because for the bells and whistles you have HP and Plextor, based exactly on this one. Now I've learned what really means to pay for support. The other things that's really strange is the phantom firmware out there that's supposed to fix the -R writing. Is it really only for the Japanese version of the 1100A?The only firmware I've tested doesn't recognize the drive.
Oh...I'd almost forget... I burned a data cd compilation with Nero with my old Creative 121032E wich I gave to my girlfriend and by the way I'm missing now... (read "the drive"). This was a black surface Samsung Cd. Well... it can be read in any cd-rom I've tried except th ND-1100A!
Any wise advice and/or help would be great with all this.
