Have seen this mentioned, have seen (and downloaded) the firmware.
All previous reports say that it's NOT possible, that the hardware differences are too great.
Well, the hacked firmware is said to do it, and someone on another forum reckons they did workable DVD-R burns with the flashmodded drive.
I've downloaded and archived the firmware (in case its removal from the site were to be demanded), since my friend has this drive, but I'm not even going to tell them about it until some more good or bad reports shake down .... it's out there, and I'll pop the URL in if it seems right, but at the moment, I'd rather not direct people to what could be the scene of the accident - I consider this VERY HIGH RISK.
