Mysterious file: Trojan???

A few days ago a mysterious file appeared on my c:\ drive:

Perflib_Perfdata_774.dat

I cannot delete it as it claims to be used by another program. And I cannot delete in safe mode, as it's not showing up. The file gets bigger everyday especially if I try to delete it with PurgieIE. Also strange is that there is no summary info under file properties.

Is this a spyware or trojan file? :(

Thanks in advance for the help!

i searched google-i was curious
it has something to do with perl and microsoft-do not exactly understand what it does--but the jist-> it is a librabrary and a data file for perl--it will keep getting bigger because it is collecting data from your computer--performance related
i am in the dark a bit Perl unknown language to me--but it may give you help in figuring how to turn it "off"

Win32::perfLib is included in libwin32-0.12. This version works only with the core distribution of perl.
found it here
h**p://www.bybyte.de/jmk/docs/Perl5/PerfLib/PerfLib.html

hopefully this will help-sorry if i didn't
best of luck

To kill it.. for good.. search you windows registry for it. Just click on START, RUN and type regedit. You can delete all references for it and it will be GONE! Make sure it isn't important though!!!!

Maybe the registry entries for it would also tell ya where ya got it from.

If that doesn't do it.. look at your autoexec.bat, etc...

Its not a trojan... I have it too on HD, and you'd rather leave it there (temp directory, I guess). Its not that huge...
Whew, thanks for the reassurance. I was getting worried about this one. You are right, it's not that big a file. But it kept getting bigger and bigger. Then mysteriously it would return to 0 mb and start all over again.

I'm kind of ignorant when it comes to trojans. But I had heard of mysterious files appearing on your hard drive, gathering information, and broadcasting it to an undisclosed location. Now I can relax!

Cheers to all of you for your answers! :)
