My 52246S is slow...

I've now installed my 52246S. I've just burned the first CD at 52x which was a 62 min audio, using Nero 5.5.9.13 (bundled with drive) and it took over 6 minutes which I'm sure is slower than my old PlexWriter 24x

Any help or suggestions? The source files were MP3 stored on my HD.

dude nero converts the mp3z to cd format which in my experience take longer to burn than data or standard cd audio files

am i dum?

I flow with the software, it is supposed to know what it is doing. If it fails THEN TWEAK it. I would rather know it is reading at IT'S quality speed vs me wanting it faster.

Seeing I cannot see insdie the computer, I have to HOPE it is all AOK. Using 3 burner pgms, I have to PRAY it is stable!

Maybe so Chi, but 6 mins is too long for a burner that's rated at 52 speed. Hell, I have a 16x that burns music cds faster than that.

Yes it's connected via a 40 pin cable (is there any other way?).

DMA wasn't turned on.

I got Nero to "determine maximum speed" and perform a simulation. It states that my media is only writeable at 32x (despite being branded as 48x).

Even at 32x I wouldn't expect 6 mins.

With DMA turned on I'll give it another go and post the results. Is there anything else to consider?

new theory

I think we are in a PHASE where what is screwy will BREAK or need fixing. Not just computers but we see that as important details.

My CD-RW is 52X and now my DVD will not read most burned data CDs, even burned at 32X.

I give UP. I had a SQUEAL and thougt a fan or HD but it looks like HD slide out case where the TAB to snap it in place loosens a TINY TAD and maybe enought for a high frequency vibration. I TIED it with string.

I really need t go back to OLD OLD habits w/o the women!

I think with DMA on,there will be a lot of improvement....:)

You can also consider to turn of smartburn @ Nero, drive options.....your media will not be checked anymore for max speed capacity, but will be burned @ the max speed YOU select, instead of the max speed, recommended by smartburn......but watch out with this setting..;)

With DMA turned on I tried it again but this time 'dragged' the tracks from an audio cd and then burned. Took about 2-2.5 mins!!

Now going to try MP3 again and will post results.
