I recall that recent Nvidia drivers disable movie playback if the TV-out chip cannot enforce Macrovision.

Not sure if this applies to ANY movie playback though - as it's a bit rough if they force it for bogstandard AVI ?

What driver?
I'd suggest trying an earlier one, maybe a 28.x as that's probably as much as the hardware can realistically use anyway (Says I, running 43.45 on a 2MX )

Play something that is definitely unprotected - one of the "joke" movie clips - or go to http://www.405themovie.com/ and get that as a test piece.

Must be something wrong--couse got same card and i watching all my dvds from pc with tv output by a svideoout cable--and it works--with wmp9 and winamp2.........

Some solutions:

1. Although you can see your desktop just fine, the movie doesn't appear, instead, you see a black rectangle.
If u use a geforce graphics card you should go to preferences on your desktop and then to advanced settings and then to manage overlay colours in the geforce settings.
You can select a fullscreen device and if you put the secundary screen (your tv) to be the fullscreen device you will be able to play videos on your mediaplayer and on your monitor at the same time!

2. Go to the display properties. Click advanced, and then click the tab that has the name of your video card on it. On the left side bar, click "Overlay Controls" under zoom control, change the setting from "Video Overlay" to "Video Mirror" Push "OK" Now you should be able to watch movies on your TV.

3. Go to display properties, settings, advanced, geforce440mx, then go to OVERLAY. Now, select "secondary screen" as the FULLSCREEN device (left upper hand corner).
