Recently having problems installing software.
according to my event log, its the msiInstaller Event ID . 1000

anyone know where i can download the msiInstaller for XP ?
i have found downloads for 98, 2000, NT but not XP, ive tried the one for 2000 + nt but it doesnt work.
Need an XP version !!!! or a solution to my problem.
I turned off system restore a few weeks ago as well ! (plonker)

Well, what do you know, I just recovered from same situation. My error was "Program Files contains an invalid character"... go figure that. I also searched everything for XP installer, but couldn't find it. I'm afraid the only solution is to reinstall whole XP. I have XP SP1 and I did "boot from CD - repair windows istalataion routine" (the second R) - all the installed programs and most of the settings remain.

I got lucky - I wasted only 3 hours

Yea, a repair would be my best bet.
it will also take 3 hrs to update from MS again !!!
