mpeg's & avi's to dvd

Can anyone helpme with my little problem.
i have films in avi & mpeg format, how can i burn them on to a -r dvd disc to watch on a dvd player. i have "nero 6 ultra" & "DVD lab" & "dvd shrink" will any of these programs do it. please please help.

Actually, you're going to need a bit more than PC-GUY's "good start" ;)
First, you need to encode the files to a compliant mpeg.
Get a good encoder. I recommend Mainconcept, lots of people use TMPGEnc, and there are quite a few others.
Convert your avi's using one of those.
Check your mpegs to see what format they are in. If they're dvd compliant, you can author and burn them. If not, you might need to do a bit of transcoding to make them compliant.

As long as you have Nero 6 try them in Nero Vision Express. Spend a little time and you will find NVE to be very versatile. You can stack your AVI, and Mpegs and VOb's if you like (PAL and NTSC), together and in almost any combination. You can merge them create chapter stops and create a menu if you like, without the use of any other programs or without having to know or understand any of the somewhat confusing particulars of converting/authoring. The results can be quite satisfactory, let your eyes be the judge.
