....MPEG, there I said it

I didn't know what forum to enter, but I have a question that most of you may find simple enough. I have some video files that are MPEG, AVI, and are bigger than 700MB, say 800MB. I just want to put the damn files on to a cd without burning as VCDS. Is there an easy way to do this?? Virtual Dub would allow me to change the video resolution and such things, but I wouldn't know the size of the file until AFTER I processed it, which can take some time. Is there some software that allows you to enter a file, tell it what size you want it to be, and let it adjust the comression for you?? Any help you can offer is great! THank you.

Well you could using mode2cdmaker, however then you may as well just do a VCD. You could also use mode2cdmaker to burn an 800MB AVI to a 700MB CDR, however AVI's do not handle errors well at all so I would not recommend it.

As for recompressing with VirtualDub, it is the codec that determines the filesize not the program. For instance if you were using XviD then you could enter the desired filesize when you did the second pass. I wouldn't recommend recomressing though.
