Mpeg size when burning to SVCD

When I take my svcd compliant mpeg file and burn it to an SCVD with nero or vcdeasy, the mpeg file that ends up on the CDR is a little bigger than the original mpg file....... anybody know why that is? what do the programs add to the file? I was going to use SVCD as my back up copy of movies I keep on my hard drive....... but if its adding something to the file everytime it is burned, that wont work. Anybody know what they add to the file or if they add anything? Im not talking about in the other folders on the SVCD Im talking about the Mpeg file itself on the SVCD

All VCD and SVCD have RIFF headers and info added when authored & burnt by Nero, VCDEasy, etc. A VCD even gets a name change from MPG to DAT but none for SVCD. To get the original MPG back simply extract with VCDEasy, VCDGear, IsoBuster, etc, etc and they strip the RIFF data out.

Thanks for the explanation Chickenman, please answer me something that is bugging me:

I must use a program to extract the MPGs from DATs in VCDs, but do I have to use a program also for the MPG files in SVCDs or are they ready to be just copied as they are and don't need extraction?

I am going to extract all the MPGs and MPG2s from my vcds and svcds and put them in packages of 5 on DVD-Rs (ISO) with subtitles that I have downloaded from the net for playing them in my KISS standalone DVD player.

Thanks a lot

You need to extract the true mpg file out of SVCD mpg files on the CD. I find the best and easiest is Isobuster. Righ click on the AVSEQ01.dat/mpg file and select "Extract but filter on M2F2 mpeg frames", this dump a true mpg file to your HD for both VCD and SVCD.
