MPEG Movie File To DVD

Hello Folks,

Please bear with me because this the first time I’ve used Dazzle Digital Video Creator II.

Using Dazzle Digital Video Creator II and Movie Star v4.25 I have captured the classic VCR movie “Command Decision” to my hard drive and now have a 5.69GB MPEG Movie File. I would like to covert this 5.69GB MPEG Movie File to a DVD compliant file and then use DVD2one to compress the DVD compliant file to 4.3GB and then burn to a DVD-R.

I am at a loss on how to convert the 5.69GB MPEG Movie File to a DVD compliant file and am hoping that knowable forum members will be able to provide information on how to do this.

Regards,
Coaster

If its MPEG 2 DVD lab or other DVD authoring programs (U probably have Dazzle which I have never used)will change into VOB's etc ready for burning

Its to big to fit to a dvdr so it needs to be reencoded down to fit. If its an MPEG-2 file (you just say MPEG !) then I would rename it to VTS_01_1.VOB and use IFOEdit to generate an IFO file, etc from it then use DVD2One or Shrink or what ever (even DVD2SVD w/ CCE if you want to retain as much quality as possible) to reduce it down to 4.3 gig to fit to a DVDR..

If its an MPEG-1 file, then you could look at TMPGEnc to rencode to DVD compliant file or other progs like Ulead DVD Movie Factory 2.

We really need to know a few details about the MPEG file in order to be able to help you out here. Do you know the resolution, frame rate and encoding type? If it is a DVD ready MPEG, then simply pulling it in to one of the shrink programs (such as ChickenMan suggested) will easily do the trick. However, if the file is not really DVD-Ready, you have some more fiddling to do first.

Please check the details and post them. If you have any problems, use a freeware program called "MPEG Properties" to get the info.

Hello Folks,

Thanks for the response from you folks. Sorry that I did not provide enough information in my initial posting.

I used Dazzle Digital Video Creator II and Dazzle Movie Star v4.25 and recorded the subject VCR Movie to my Hard Drive and ended up with a at DVD compliant MPEG-2 Audio/Video Clip (5000000 Video Bitrate/224000 Audio Bitrate) file that is 5.69GB in size.

I attempted to use DVDit PE and Ulead DVD MovieFactory 2 to convert the DVD compliant MPEG-2 Audio/Video Clip (5.69GB) to a DVD but both of these program will only let you create a 4.7GB size DVD.

As stated previously I would like to somehow take the 5.69GB DVD compliant MPEG-2 Audio/Video Clip and convert it to a DVD and then use DVD2one to compress to 4.3 GB size and then record to a DVD-R.

I hope I have provided enough information for you to be able respond to my inquiry. Thank you for your patience attempting to provide assistance.

Regards,
Coaster

Then I would think that CM's method will work beautifully. Create an IFO with IFOEdit and feed the whole shebang into DVD2One. Voila!

I have a DVC-II, and have captured to MPG, then used TMPGEnc DVD Author to create the VOB structure with menus, chapters, and all..

Hello Folks,

I have attempted to use IfoEdit v0.9.5.0 to convert my 5.69GB DVD compliant MPEG-2 Audio/Video Clip to a DVD but have been unsuccessful.

When I used IfoEdit v0.9.5.0 I renamed the5.69GB DVD compliant MPEG-2 Audio/Video Clip file from Clip1.MPG to VTS_01_1.VOB and then under the “VOB Extra” tab located on the top left title bar I clicked “Create New IFOs”. This created two folder named Audio_TS and Video_TS. In the Video_TS folder there were VIDEO_TS.IFO, VIDEO_TS_BUP, VTS_01_0.IFO, and VTS_01_0.BUP files. I then attempted to run DVD2one on the files created by IfoEdit and receive the error message “Unable To Open Vobfileset 1in VIDEO_TS Directory”.

I am really at a loss on exactly how to use IfoEdit v0.5.0 to convert the 5.69GB MPEG-2 Audio/Video Clip file that Dazzle Digital Video Creator II and Dazzle Movie Star v4.25 created from my VHS VCR tape. I really don’t want to do anything fancy like menus or chapters, I just what to record the movie only to a DVD-R.

Any assistance that form members could provide would be greatly appreciated.

You need to have a program that Authors an MPG to VOB (DVD). SpruceUp can do it, but I found that the DVC-II's mpg files are not always readable with it. If you use any authoring program that can read the MPG, use it. I have used DVD Author because it can read it. If you don't want menus, use DVDShrink (freeware) to both compress the DVD to 4.3gb and get rid of menus/chapters. Works ok for free.

@ ipdave,

Thanks for making me aware of TMPGEnc DVD Author v1.5.11.37. This program works great with Dazzle Digital Video Creator II and is very easy to use.

Dont get confused over 4.7gig and 4.37gig. Look at your DVDR and it will say 4.7gig on it, but we all know that it can ONLY hold 4.37 real gig. Some programs says 4.7. some 4.3, some work in 1000bytes to a K while others work in 1024bytes to a K.
