Movie size

Suppose that I convert a 5 GB mpeg2 (DVD) movie to avi (DivX or Xvid) two times: one time to 1 disk (700mb) and second time with higher bit rate into 2 disks (2X700mb).
Now if I want to convert back the first movie (1 disk movie) to mpeg2/dvd will give me a file with about the original size 4-5 GB and the same quality as the avi has. That’s ok.
But how can I convert the second movie (2 disks movie) to mpeg2/dvd and having the original size (4-5 GB) and keeping the same quality as the avi has?

Join the 2 AVI's together first and encode the large avi. Or encode each avi to 1/2 a DVD size (2200 in DVDDecrypter) and link the end action of movie 1 to start of movie 2 in Maestro when you author.

Join the 2 AVI's together first and encode the large avi that will give me an output min 8GB with standard settings.
How can i encode each avi to 1/2 a DVD size?
Thanks CM for your reply.

When you join and encode via DVD2SVCD, the size of the original AVI is irrelevant, its it length in time thats important. You will NOT end up with a 8 gig file after encoding unless you tell it to do that.

In DVD2SVCD in the Bitrate tab, if the movie is 90min long then look across the line "Between 76 and 100 min then use 1 cd size 4400" will encode the AVI to fite to 1 DVDR. If you do each AVI individually, just change the 4400 to read 2200 (thats 1/2 of 4400) in the "Between 0 and 50min..." line (as each AVI now would be shorter in time than the joined avi.) DVD2SVCD will encode to what ever you tell it to encode to, ie you tell it the number of CDs (or DVD) and its size and it encodes to the best bitrate to fit to what you have specified.

But CM,
when i try to load the Xvid file in DVD2SVCD, i have this error: Couldn´t lokate decompressor for format "xvid". Then i try to load it and convert it with canopus dv file converter and again error but, CCE, Canopus Procoder and Tmpeg can load this file and convert it without problems.

Then you have something else installed thats conflicting with DVd2SVCD or one of its programs.

Do you have the latest dvd2svcd as ver 1.1.2 build 1 ?

I have already converted the DanotherD AVI with AC3 sound. If I can convert it then so can anyone else. As I said, you obviously have some codec/program conflict thats causing your problems. Get rid of Nimo pack if you have it installed.

But i have many problems with these xvid movies. I can´t join them, CCE freeze, Main concept encoder crashs, Adobe Premiere convert but without picture (only black)..... Only the Procoder works and Tmpeg (not always)

CM i found a way to make it work.
Installing the Xvid Codec you have a little tool too, the "AviC (FourCC changer)".
I open the movie with this and change it from Xvid to DivX and now i can import it into AVI2(S)VCD and the system read it as DivX like all the encoders.
It is like renaming :D

I use that tool myself to change DivX3 to DivX4 but its has never been succesful for Xvid for me. Beside all the Xvids I have seen and converted ( many, many of them) all convert fine without using AviC tool.

You obviously have a codec clash still as you should not need to use the AviC tool on an Xvid. I'll unable to suggest which one (or more ) that are clashing.
