movie file joining question

Hello all. I have several mpeg, mpg and avi files (music video's mostly, but also some cool car crashes and stuff) and even some other file formats (ask, wmv, etc.) and I want to string them together into one long video to burn onto a DVD.

They are different sizes (frame size) and differnt bit rates, etc. I have some files that are similar, but mostly they are about as different as they can be in everyway.

So. Is what I want to do even possible? If so, what would be some of my better software choices? Or, in light of what I want to do, is there a better solution that I havn't thought of?

Take care,
Rob

what you could do is try Ulead DVDmovie factory as this seems to allow files of differing types and styles to used on one dvd, it will probably re-encode before burning but its worth a try. files for DVD have to be in a certain format anyway so re encoding to the correct format would have be done beforehand regardless. i would recommend re encoding with TMPgenc all the files to the same frame size and bitrate and then add them to your dvd complilation

Avi joining-Spliting

I would recomend to go with a real proggy(virtual dub or virtual dubmod)......I did many avis with it and all came great..just follow a tutorial..Its so easy :)

Btw....if you are trying to burn a data dvd(to watch from pc=thats ok),but to join and convert all different formats--its gonna be too much work(me think)....Couse you have to join them all, encode them all to same format, and make dvd from those...

Since they are all different, it will be a difficult job for some and easy for others.

I would recommend using MainConcept MPEG Encoder 1.4 as it will input most of the varieties you have, and convert the vodeo & audio to DVD compliant streams. I would use a dvd size of 30kb per Minute of each movie clip (this will give a consistant bitrate for all clips) and make individual Video & Audio streams (audio to MP2 or WAV). Then when all converted, simply author them in DVDLab or TMPGEnc DVD Author, adding a Menu if needed and finally burn out with Nero.
