Mebbee you could start by indicating what you're going to do with it (and which chipset you're going to use).
 
without getting too specific, there is a large consensus that ASUS builds mboards that are superior in terms of quality and reliability, while ABIT makes boards that are unparalled for performance and overclocking. I've been very fond of the ABIT board I bought last time I upgraded.
 
got an abit which i think is poor running a p3 .os win xp whih my abit board gives me grief just looking for a good all round board was thinking about amd processor 2
 
If you're having trouble with abit (and their older boards did have a reputation for being buggy -- is your p3 pre-1gigahertz?), why not invest in an ASUS board. They are among the most expensive, but they are reputed to have very good quality. I was unhappy with the last ASUS board I bought -- it was the A7M and one of the very first ddr AMD boards. That said, I believe their newer boards are supposed to be faultless and I may consider them when I purchase again.
 
I just bought my first ASUS board, A7V333 and im most happy with it.
I was spun out when i first opend the box to see all the extra stuff you get with a good quality company and they update there drivers and bios frequently witch is great.
 
check out w**.anandtech.com and see what they use in their "system" builds. I got an MSI KT333 Ultra2 based on them and it worked just fine.
 
A very good MB for AMD procs is SOLTEK SL-75DRV5. But there are others too... so better search the net for some comparative tests, that's the best way to make an ideea.
 
I upgraded to a gigabyte GA-7vaxp and asus a7v333 couple months ago. gigabyte board much more stable. asus board had conflicts with older matrox board, new leadtek winfast t200. and installing XP pro

after months on this b/ board and amd b/board reslved problem by putting leadtek into gigabyte board and bought ati 7500 for asus board then changed memory into slot 1 and 3 now board works. without moving memory you get blue screen of death

asus will tell you you need to use memory from a limited supply of vendors (that was fix they had for me)

go to this site and read for your self. I will avoid asus in the future or until I read they have fixed problems. bios updated every couple of weeks (I think because they cant figure out how to fix all the problems in their board)

whether Amd or Intel, I would go Abit. My last few have been so and I have had no problems with stability or usability. They are competitively priced too, I recently built a system with the Abit SA7, great spec and only around £75($105). I have an old BH6, and it's still going. I'm using an IT7 max now, no more serial, parallel, ps2. It's got USB 2, firewire, Lan and it's good in bed lol.
 
It depends on whether you're looking for stability or overclocking ability. If you want rock solid stability I would recommend Gigabyte or Epox with an AMD 761 chipset for a AMD processor platform. Never any chipset\soundcard compatibilty problems and stable 24\7. Not the fastest out there ...but never a problem either. If you go with a Intel CPU, I can't help you....never owned one. Just my opinions.
 
I have had nothing but good results with Abit (AMD, not Intel) mbs.

Running KT7A-RAID on my server (24x7x365) without a hickup - currently on .NET server.

Main machine is an AT7-RAID with AthlonXP2000+ no problems with compatibility or stability. Running XP sp1. Highly recommend Abit; I have had mixed results with Asus - had one die on me. Never had an Abit go out. Owned 5 Abit's so far.
 
Mobo Help!!

Try looking at w*w.tomshardware.com or w*w.arstechnica.com they usually have some pretty good info on mobos. Choosing the right mobo is the key in building a system you will happy with so dont try to skimp by getting whats cheap. If you are building an AMD system I would highly recommend the ASUS A7V333.
