modem recognition probs

having a problem with a rockwell hcf 56 modem, i have just done a clean install on me old chaps pc, all has gone well apart from :- i cant get the pc to recognise the modem, it a dan system pent 1 mmx . ive got the drivers but when iu run the add hardware wizard it wont detect.... please help. if not im at the motherin laws mercy oooops

nunyobiznes thanx, but do that it says all installed properly then when i launch his aol it cant detect modem..... and the muv in law is giving me grief

its a software modem it needs to be on irq 5 or less or it will simply not work had the very same problem with the very same modem :( it requires a bit of jiggling in device manager to swap the irq's about :)

and on com port 3 or 4 usually this is done in the control panel modem settings as most software modems install their own device controller in control panel :)

cheers viper, but its a card modem, its a rockwell hcf data fax vioice speakerphone and a pain in the arse modem, please excuse my french.... i had this problem before when he upgarded from 95 to 98 but i found a driver that did every thing for me , mother in law will be on the war path if she cant surf

yeah its the same as the connextant HFC just badged different if u have the driver disk with it use that and use the installer on the cd as this is the fastest way to get it up and running :)

like i also said tho jiggle the resources about in device manager to get it to 5 or below 5 is what i used to have mine set to :)

thanx viper il give it a whirl , im just downloading a new driver as the inlaws have miss laid the other...

mother in law is now getting violent

You may also need to go into device manager to get it going.Sounds like the same modem I had many moons ago. Mine used Com port3.I remember it as being a pain too.;)

i couldnt agree with u more viper, but the mother in law is summoing up a spell...... anyway thanx for your help guys but i think a new modem might be in order. As this one is giving me the right ump..

woody the system im working on only has 2 coms ports and a printer port, i think shes gonna turn me into a frog

yeah possibly remove any other pci devices apart from the graphics card if this is pc install the modem and get it working then reinstall the other cards :)

just swap it in the slots untill you get it to work in the right irq settings :)

coms 1 and 2 are mouse usually is on com1 and com 2 is usually external serial com port... everything above tends to be fine 3 and 4 being usually the norm but 3,4, or 5 should work ok :)

usually their is a setting in control panel or in dialup networking in control panel under the modem device settings ?! :)

cheers guys il give it a whirl 2morrow, more important things to do now, like watch the new harry potter so i can learn how a witches mind works. Then i can tackle the mothe inlaw ........
