Modem problem

Anyone can help me with this problem....I have installed a Pentium III 550 Mhz and teh OS is Win2k. My modem is Intel 56K chipset MD3200 support V.92, and when I connect to the ISP, I stay connected only for 5 minutes, and suddenly I'm kick off, and can't connect again until I reboot my computer. Anyone knows why?.

Another tip...I reinstalled the PC twice.

Thanks for your help.

check yer settings in internet options in internet explorer and see if you have an idle timer set to drop the modem carrier after 5 minutes ?!

or any other software that may drop the connection after use ?!
other browsers , ftp software, download managers etc etc !?

I am puzzeled by the fact that you can't get back online untill you reboot. If you had access to another Modem for a trial I would install it and see if you still get the same results. You could disable the Intel 56K in the bios while you are trying this.
I don't know where you are, but I have seen th same problem here, with one or two ISP's.

internal or external ? internal nothing but crap not worth 2c ... get hold of external modem try that .... Customer of ours had same prob ... we tryed everything possible ( lastest drivers.... strings).. no luck ... we installed Ex Modem and worked sweet !!!

I have seen that problem too X-BoNeS-X, (in particular areas,) and if it was on an extention socket. The only solution was External. But the differance was they could not connect at all, while roger2k is. Even it is only for five mins.
