Thats a new one on me but I did find some info that should help you.
A (MKV). There are three options that you have to play an MKV file.

  • The first is to download one of two players that have native Matroska support. These are Media Player Classic, created by Gabest, and The Core Media Player. Media Player Classic is available from Gabest's Guliverkli project page on sourceforge, http://sf.net/projects/guliverkli and The Core Media Player is available from http://corecoded.com/ . These should allow you to play Matroska files without the need for any other filters. (Excluding VSFilter)
  • The recommended option if you wish to play MKV files in other players is to use the Matroska Playback Pack which can be downloaded from http://www.matroska.org in the downloads section. Please note, this playback pack includes VSFilter. If you install this package, do not install VSFilter seperately.
  • You may also manually install the splitter that is available from Gabest's Guliverkli or mkxds from http://www.matroska.org ; however, this is not recommended unless you know what you are doing!
Or you can decompress them:
How to Decompress a MKV file to Avi

Requirements:
<!-- m -->http://home.cogeco.ca/~avi2vcd/<!-- m --> -> Avi2Vcd(decompressor.exe)
<!-- m -->http://www.matroska.org/<!-- m --> -> mkxds (MKV DShow splitter),Matroska Muxer, and Matroska Splitter
Ogm/OGG Codecs a must -> Xvid, Vobsub_2.23, SubtitDS1400, OggDS0995, ffdshow, riff-cdxa-filter-test6b-nsis

MKV or Mastroka container format, described as being the same as OGG/OGM with multiple chapter, subtitles capabilities.<-Awesome

Just like article " <!-- m -->http://www.dvdrhelp.com/forum/userguides/108498.php<!-- m -->" but in this case you can't rename the file as avi.
Recommended to retain the original file name to avoid "unable to process video" errors.

Launch decompressor.exe packaged with Avi2Vcd program.
Goto Browse button and navigate to folder where mkv file is stored.
In File Name - type w/o quotes "*.*" then hit enter - which will display the mkv file.
Select the file by single or double click and or select file and Open button.
Then click Decompress.......

Note: Some MKV files may have multiple audio tracks as well so make sure within the first 1sec you click decompress and a green
arrow appears near your clock, make sure you selected the desired language.

Then Read a Book.....Take a walk......Make a couple phone calls......Maybe take another walk.....The extraction process takes time

Once finished(20-30mins later) the file will double in size archiving an uncompressed video and decompressed audio <----Nice
eq:Hellraiser.mkv 774mbs <--I can't burn this.
Hellraiser_pcm.avi 1.47gbs <---can't burn this either.
Hellraiser_virtualdub.avi 638mb <------sweet burnable.

Lets us know how you make out.:)
