Media vs Burning Software ??

Personally think most probs come with cheap crappy media although I use RNM and dvddcrypter only for dvd burning.

Now I could be wrong, and this could rage on forever.....

Software can influence the success of a burn, but not the quality - though that has been debated several times, and there are other possible factors such as speed selection.

Both can affect the burn quality- but first and foremost it is the media quality, at least regarding DVD burning.
For CD burning even ultra cheapos make the mark, altough they may begin to wear out just weeks after being burned.

Is a strange subject. You would have thought that in this day and age, burning a CD or DVD would be a relatively painless exercise.
Anyway, I have an external Iomega Super DVD and use Iomega HotBurn Pro software, and I also have Nero. I have got so many coasters, so I was looking inline at a prodcut by InfnaDyne called AccuBurn-R, which gaurantees no data loss, user errors, and no more wasted disks.

I am not sure what to do. In a way I am tempted to buy it, but I am a bit sick that the software I have isn't doing it. Maybe it is the media I am using. I don't problems burning CD's with my internal laptop CD Burner using Imation disks, but I have thrown away so many DVD disks it isn't funny, and they don't come cheap and it is very frustrating. I have mainly been using TDK disks for DVD, which PC-Guy told me (see my post below) are made by CMC media which he reckons may be total cr@p.

What say you ?

Well I see it as both. :) I've always used CopyToDVD and ritek dvd-r's well I found that if I burn with BAO I have better compatibility. I found dvd players that would only play +r but after burning with BAO that changed. Now I can burn -rs and the players play them with out a problem. Well that just my option and my results be that it could be different for you with different hardware.

I will look out for Ritek and get some if I can, but I can't say that I have seen them for sale here in Switzerland. I guess I will have to order some over the net, or have a good look in all the shops here in Zurich.

CMC media might be crap? I don't agree at all, they are 100% hopeless crap... there should be no doubt at all about that.
TDK also stamps good media, but clearly enough noone would like to take the risk ending up with CMC's- since there's no indication on the box about the dye used.

I downloaded DVD Identifier, and it gives a manufacturer id of TTG01, which PC-GUY wasn't sure were CMC. Maybe you can confirm this ??
Looks like I will change the media anyway, because I am having no luck with TDK at all anyway, regardless of whether they are CMC or not.

Another resource (CDRlabs forum) had TTG01 as "TDK made by CMC" - and some people rated it better than most other "made by CMC" - another set of results were poor though - some suggestion that it was sold as 1-4x but the 4x identifier was not correct - leading some drives to write at 2x - try 2x, if you have some to use up and they are not forced to 2x - perhaps it's 2x media that's been respecified?

I only had 4 left yesterday, and all 4 screwed up when I was trying to burn a few things leaving me with 4 disks that appeared to contain no data but wouldn't be accepted by my drive, so gladly I do not have anymore left to use.

I know it's off topic, but does anybody know if an Xbox needs to be modded so it can run games downloaded from eDonkey and burned to DVD-R ?
