media speeds?

im a little confused i bought a 40/12/48 writer which im pleased with my problem is i have some octron media thats certified to burn at 24 speed but actually will burn at 40 speed fine
but i also have a lot of emtec media thats certified at 32 speed but wont burn at more than 16speed
what gives ????

it's a common misconception that the speed of the media ultimately determines the writing speed.... the certified media speed is the highest recommended speed for that media.

the actual speed is ultimately determined by the cdwriter's firmware. that's why it's always good keep your firmware up to date, or stick to quality media that's been recommended by the cdwriter manufacturer.

i've got a samsung 24/10/40 and use nothing else but Princo's and have never had a problem. hope this helps
