Mechanic Loses Job, Smashes Up Cars

Jose Martinez Held A Personal Demolition Derby After Learning He Was Suspended From The MTA

(AP) LOS ANGELES A Metropolitan Transit Authority radio mechanic didn't take it too well when his supervisors at a bus yard near downtown Los Angeles told him he was being suspended.

Authorities say Jose Martinez hopped in a 40-foot-bus after he got the news, backed it up into another bus, then drove forward into a yet another bus.

After that, he boarded a second bus and drove to an employee parking lot, where he smashed into cars before sandwiching the bus he was driving between a parked car and another parked bus.

Two MTA employees escorted the 47-year-old out of the bus. He was later arrested and is being held on suspicion of felony vandalism and taking a vehicle without the owner's permission.

An MTA spokesman says no one was injured, but that the incident left four buses and 13 cars with a total of $100,000 in damages.

MTA officials won't say why Martinez had been suspended in the first place, citing employee privacy.
