Me and ms dos

Trying to format Me but cannot get to the ms dos to do this?

Rebooting and pressing the F8 option just gives me 3 options.
I downloaded a patch to overwrite certain system files to no avail.
I have the option ALT and F5 for command prompt (C:\>format(space)C: ) but still no luck ??

Where am I going wrong?

You can also format with an XP or win 2000 cd,but if you have none of these,a decent win 98 boot floppy is much better than a winME floppy......best way to do it in dos is by using command fdisk, delete partition, create a new 1 and finally format..that way,you can be shure that no system file will prevent a format... :)

Are you absolutely sure that you have to install ME?

No offense meant, but really -- blecchh! Even Windows 98 SE is an improvement.

Be kind to yourself. Just say NO to ME.

:D Not an Me fan I take it.

It's no great detriment, its an old PC which will be used just for downloading, p2p that sort of stuff and storage.

Got there eventually. Option 1 with CDROM support gave me the required prompt, which I found unusual as this option under 98 will give a bad command name.

So, up and running again......big thanx

ME may not be great, but surely much preferrable to 98SE if you've got a copy of 98Lite pro software...
DOS prompt can be unhidden in ME, but a boot floppy should suffice for formatting. Better an 98 one, as the ME fdisk does not have an MBR switch.
