Mc Afee VirusScan7 or Norton 2003

Just wanting your opion I have come across these apps at the Nemesis site.....

Which out of these 3 antivirus software would peps advise me to use....

Mc Afee Virus Scan 7

Norton 2003

PC-cillin 2002 (which is what i'm running at the moment)

I would usally go for the norton app (as it would interface with sysworks) but as i gather the reputation of norton apps around here is not good....and i have never used a McAfee product so i'm a bit unsure to weather they are any good.

The other problem i face is that

both Mc Afee and PC-cillin both have personal firewalls included in there suite of progs.....I run Sygate at the moment...

should i ditch sygate and use the firewalls in with the anti visus or should i keep using sygate and disable the ones that come with the antivirus.

cheers hope all the above makes sense folks

flyby2001 out.........

happy birthday flyby mate ! many happy returns !

i use avg for antivirus and am completely satisfied with it. i won't opt for pc-cillin as it failed me on many occasions in the past. if you ask me to choose between good shit & bad shit, naturally i'd go for the good : NORTON - mcafee 7 really sux.

as for the firewalls, i guess poko & svgusta has made good suggestions in their recent thread. firewall that come with mcafee 7 should be very good - but that should not make you use the shitty antivirus. you can choose mcafee desktop firewall for the job. anyway, i am not an expert on firewalls (or anythying) - pls go through their threads.

but, if you are seeing this post on sept 9, log off man. go out & enjoy yr birthday ! cheers !

Both Norton and McAfee had their era of greatness in the past.
I use F-Secure and IMO this is one of the top solutions.
If you for some reason decide to use Norton then it is the Corp Edition you should get. It´s a real Pro version and can´t be compared to the Home Edition. It´s not only the GUI that is different..they have different engines as well.

Finally I can´t see the need for a firewall in an AV application. Unfortunately other AV programs has added a firewall part. F-Secure is among them. But important is the fact that it´s with the Personal editions, not the real Pro versions.

It´s always best to use standalone solutions from different manufactors if you like the best.
As far as I know there is no manufactor that is best in general. Creating a perfect AV program is no guarantee for a good Firewall etc.
