Mandrake Linux 9.0 w/KDE3

Hey I got a slight problem with Mandrake Linux 9.0. I just installed it tonight. The operating system itself works fine, but cannot figure out how to connect to the net. Also I need to change the COM port my modem is on on Linux. I accidentally selected COM1 instead of COM3. What is the name of the program I need to run in order to start connecting to the Internet, and where is it located at? Any help given would greatly be appreciated. Thanks in advance.

Try Kppp, it's in the menu under Networking>remote access>Kppp. You may be able to detect your modem & set up your internet connection from there. If it won't detect your modem you can try setting it up from the Mandrake Control Center>Network & Internet>Connection. Kppp should do what you need provided you don't have a win-modem. If it's a win-modem you will need more help than I can offer since I am new to Linux myself. I hope this helps .

I have looked there, and I got the drivers needed for the modem, but I still do have a few problems when booting into Linux: the problems are as follows:
Problem 1) PCI: Device 00:1f not available because of resource collisions.

Problem 2) Bringing up interface eth0: -> about 2 1/2 minutes later I get this message Determining IP Address for eth0...failed.

Problem 3) When trying to connect to the Internet I get this error:
Kppp can not find:
/dev/ttyS2

Please make sure you have setup your modem device properly and/or adjust the location of the modem device on the modem tab of the setup dialog.

Thank you.

Everything in bold is the exact error message I am getting. The one error I am the most concerned with now is getting my modem working for Mandrake Linux 9.0, and I have no clue how to install the drivers for it to work, but I do know that on Windows my modem is located on COM3. Any help given will be very much appreciated. Thank you.

Problem 1) PCI bus conflict.Have you moved any hardware around?
Problem 2) If you have no network you can disable this device.
Problem 3) Use KPPP as suggested,Use "set-up dialogue"to configure and not the wizard. In dial-up set "authentication" to PAP/CHAP,in device set modem to "/dev/modem",flow control to "CRTSCTS",line termination to "CR",speed to "115200",and modem timeout to "120s".

your connection name must be exactly as you use to connect to your ISP.

in can take a little longer to connect, sometimes, with linux so be patient and keep trying
