SALISBURY -- It wasn't the Saturday bomb threat at North Salisbury Wal-Mart that had people talking Monday morning.
It was, however, a sticky situation
<table align="left" border="0" cellpadding="0" cellspacing="0"> <tbody><tr> </tr> </tbody> </table> A 20-year-old Salisbury man was taken to Peninsula Regional Medical Center late Sunday night after a Wal-Mart employee found the man glued to his bathroom seat, said Lt. Cheryl Rantz of the Salisbury Police Department. "The man had gone into the bathroom and sat down," she said. "He was banging on the wall when the employee came in."
The employee called 911 and emergency medical services arrived. Police say the man was not in the bathroom for more than five minutes.
The man was treated at PRMC and released.
"We're grateful that he was not seriously injured," said Sharon Weber, store spokeswoman.
Wal-Mart is conducting an internal investigation into the incident and handling it just like any other, she said.
The North Salisbury location is reviewing videotapes from outside the bathroom to look for suspicious behavior and interviewing employees. Video is not recorded in the bathrooms, Weber said.
This is not the first time that watercoolers have been stirring with something other than what was on TV the night before.
In the last hour of April Fool's Day, an employee at Denny's restaurant near Route 50 found a customer in a similar predicament. The man was also treated and released from the hospital with injuries related to glue.
The investigation into that incident remains open, police said Monday.
Rantz said that the two gluings do not appear to be related, but that police are not ruling out a copycat.
The investigation was turned over to detectives on Monday for interviews. Rantz said at the time the man was found he did not have any evidence on his person that suggested the incident was self-inflicted.
"When you are about to break down you may not give it thought like you should," Rantz said about checking the seat before sitting down.
