Making a VCD CD to be played on a DVD Player process question.

Here it is:

I have a DVD player ( not one hooked up to the computer ) and it doesn't recognized burned cdr's.
I got the latest version of Easy CD Creator and saw that one of the features is burning a CD-R to watch your video files on a DVD-Player. So question 1 is:
What soft do I use to convert .avi to .mpeg files ( this is the format Easy uses to create the VCD Cd's )? Is there any other better soft to convert the video files and burn them to a CD-R that you would recommend?
Question 2 is:
Since my DVD Player doesn't recognize CDR cd's, is there a way I can burn the CDr in a way the player reads it as if it were an original CD? Does any soft do that?

Thanks Chickenman for the marvelous tutorial. The next issue I'd like you guys' help with is how to make my burned CDR to be read by my DVD player as if it was an original CD. My dvd player doesn't read CDR's. I would like to know if there's any particular procedure or any soft that does that.

Q1 - Read my Tutorial, but you already have ! lol

Q2 - Most DVD's that cant read CDR's will actually read CDRW's so I would suggest burning your VCD's to those and try.

What is the brand and model of your DVD player? Amny DVD players that claim NOT to play CDR's infact can read PRINCO branded CDR's. They are not good quality CDR's, but if they work then thats a cheaper alternative to CDRW's.

Some additional question ( if you don't mind, Chikenman ). I followed the procedures decribed on your tutorial and bumped into some errors along the way.
1- What's the mpeg template? It asked me for it. I had absolutely no idea what file to open.
2- I've got a bunch of 60mb movie files to put into one CD. These files have extension .AVI, TMPEGenc refused to open them, I got the message unssuported format. Then I checked the properties of the files and found out they are actually MPEG-3 but only run when I have the DivX codec installed. What's up?
Are these files ready to be burned into the CD? I dragged one of them from where I had it to the "new" videocd on Nero and it said it was a valid file. Does it ( do they ) need to be converted or are they ready to be burned? Can I place more than one file in one single CD?
By the way, I burned a CDRW with the technique you described and the DVD player didn't read it, so I might try getting it to work on the Dreamcast.

Sorry to hear your DVD wont read CDRW's. I doubt it will read anything other than Originals or DVD then.

Q1. When you click LOAD, the folder that appears should be pointing to the TEMPLATE folder in the folder you installed (unzipped) TMPGEnc to. You will find about 7 different Templates, then select the VideoCD(PAL) or NTSC or FILM depending on the format of the DVD your ripping.

Q2. Those 60meg AVI files are most likely DivX and probably run for about 20min each ? You must have the DivX codec installed otherwise you wont be able to play them or convert them. Yes, they must be converted to VCD first. Install DivX codec 4.11 (from w*w.divx.com ) and if that doesnt work, also install 3.11a (from ht*p://www.doom9.org/software.htm ) Then TMPGEnc will convert them for you no probs.

When burning these converted files out to VCD, just load as many files into Nero that file the CD time wise (dont wory about file length in meg), drag and drop them into correct order and burn. You can also play around with a Menu if using Nero 5.5.x so you can select any movie on initial playing of the VCD.

Nero can also convert the AVI directly to VCD but also takes many hours to do so and the quality is not very good compared to TMPGEnc.

Phew, that sure was a lot of work. It is worth it though. I got the videos to play on my dreamcast and will try to find out a way to make my LG Dvd Player to read CDRs. But, in the meatime, thanks a lot for your help ChickenMan. LOL

are you sure your machine cant read cdr's? try a music cd on it first.
L.g. has hidden vcd on most of its machines but there is a secret code u type in. If u can read music cdr or rw then let me know and we can try the code on your machine.

Goto vcdhelp - dvdhacks- LG
The vcd (and other things) unlock codes are there.
May not work for your particular model though.
But worth a try!

VCD Enable:

1. Power on the player with no disc in the drive.
2. Press Pause on the remote control.
3. Using the remote control, key in the following: 1, 4, 7, 2 (the
characters 01 47 should appear on the display) [If your player is a non UK
model, this number will probably be different - don't worry]
4. Press the UP arrow three times (the characters 04 Fd should appear on the
display)
[This number may be different depending on the configuration of your
specific model - don't worry]
5. Press Program, 6, Program, 5 (the characters 04 FE should now be
displayed).
6. Press Enter (the display should flash briefly).
7. Press Return.
8. Power the player off and then back on.
9. Play a VCD!

ok, i did notice with some vcd's i put in that i have to press play to get them spinning, not all cd's just a few. but every vcd i have burned works fine. Hope you get on ok. there is also a hack to set the dvd player region free, never tried i tho as dont have any dvd's to play that are a diff region.

The VCD hack does not work on the LG2330p.
However this doesnt mean it will not work for other models.
Any input on the LG2330p would be appreciated.

What happend when you tried it? did u get the blue screen up to input the codes? I have had a look around but i can only find a reigion free hack for your specific player, how did u burn your vcd? We may have a chance yet of getting it to play vcd if u can give me more specific info's. Mean while here is the region free hack if u need it.

1. Turn Player on with no disc inside
2. Press pause on the remote control
3. Then key in 3 1 4 1 5 9
[CODE -- will then be displayed on the player display]
4. Key in desired Region number
[0 for Auto Multi Region, or manually select 1 to 6]
5. Then Press Pause again
6. Turn off player and wait 5 seconds, then back on again.

If you are having problems getting the hack to work, try pressing stop on the remote before you press pause for the first time.

It was the vcd enable I wanted.
This is not possible for this machine apparently.
I have hundreds of vcd burned with chickenmans vcd guide.
I tried several plus svcd , mp3.
The display did not change during the remote input.
I have the region hack, but it looks like the player does not play vcd period.
Not my machine so not my problem.

Probably not from what i have looked into. It has a diff chipset i think. Never mind, was worth a try. If i dig anything else up i will give you a shout.

None of the 2*** dvd player have the correct chipset to enable vcd play back afterall, so it look's like your mate is out of luck iam affraid.
