Make a DVD from .VOB files

I have got two dvd recorded from tv with my dvd-recorder. They are not completely full and the track menu is really simple. I would like to make a new DVD from this two discs, using TMPEG DVD Author.

That's the trouble: how can I convert .VOB files in MPEG-2 video files? I have tried to copy the file on the hard drive and renamed it with the .MPG extension, but the resulting video stream is a seven-seconds-long-no-audio file (but its size is correct).

How can I proceed? Please, help! Thanks.

its best if you copy the whole cd to a new folder on the hard drive first, then when you create a new project click on the add dvd video button, then in the popup browser window click on the folder where the cd was copied to. then you can import the tiles and edit out the bits you dont want, also you can create chapter points
