MainConcept MPEG Encoder

I use MainConcept MPEG Encoder for making SVCDs from DVDs.
Can you suggest VBR settings (max. , av. , min.) for good quality output with acceptable size?

For Malholland Dr. (2hr 20min) I used 2200max 2000av. 1800min.
The result was very good and had a size of 2GB (3 discs).
Should I set a lower minimum rate? I wanted to, but was afraid of bad quality. Do you think I could have saved the 3rd disk (3rd file 500MB) that way?

BTW, MainConcept MPEG Encoder is very fast and very good. (almost twice as fast as CCE 2.64 with more or less the same quality).

I think the key words there are LESS & QUALITY.

I would suggest you lower your minimum bitrate to say 1150 and up your Max to 2500. The differenc between your Mib & Max bit rate is to small, you might as well use CBR.

I don"t know how you did your tests But MainConcept encoder is Fast but it is NOT twice as fast as CCE actually it is about 25% slower that CCE..On my 1.87ghz system Useing the same avs file i get about 35 frames per/sec with CCE doing a Fullresolution(704+480) and with The same file in MainConcept I get about 25fps...the Quality of both are very good But I still get Better sharpness with CCE and a little Less Blocks when encodeing at really low bitrates.......
