Hey everyone. I'm kazuaki. I'm a long time computer nut and overclocker. I finally bought my first DVD burner (NEC ND1300A). Now, I am reading all I can and trying to play catch-up. So far, the number of software packages available is mind boggling. There seems to be a dozen ways to get to the same goal (backing up a DVD to play on a standalone). I'm trying to sort through all the info and find a reliable, simple way to do this. BTW, is the DVD burner I bought any good? I hear so much talk about the Pioneer and the Lite-ON, but almost never any mention of the NEC. Thanks and I hope to be able to contribute someday:)

Hi welcome:)

From What I read/hear the NEC burners are a bit picky on media but otherwise I have heard nothing detrimental.

I have had the NEC ND1300A for some time now .....it was one of the first affordable Dual burners (Sony's was very expensive).
I have tried many makes/brands of dye but Ritek G04's are the only one's that have been 100 % reliable .... use Ritek dyes (for DVD-R's)...they are worth it.
You are right there are many softwares to get a 'similar' job done. Start with the 'free' one's to see how things work and then gradually try the others.
DVD decryptor , DVD Shrink and Nero is a good start. Then move on to progs like DVD Maestro, DVD Lab, TMPGEnc DVD Author, CCE, IC7 or IC8 to get more control and 'some' quality improvement.
The tutorials in this forum will teach you all you need to know.
