Loading Quicken

I have tried to load an old version of Quicken (v5) but the install program fails and says that I need to add files=50 and buffers= 10 to my config .sys file.

I run XP Home so the config file is config.nt.

I have altered it but the program still can't load - what can I do?

All responses gratefully received.

Cheers

That may be just too old a version to run on XP - that sort of error suggests it harks back to the days of Win3.1 - compatibility mode might help, but youd need it for the installer, the program and any utils as well.

My gut reaction, DON'T PUSH IT - it might be bad for XP if it succeeds.

Decide if you really want Quicken. Their new XP Product suffers from this new blight, Product Activation. To add insult to injury, any subsequent reactivation of Quicken attracts a US$9:00 charge. This leaves a very bad taste in my mouth as I'm just waiting for every other software providor to begin doing the same.

Is Quicken2002 so blighted?

I know NOTHING about the pedigree of this place, other than seeing it suggested elsewhere as a cheap place to get previous version software.

The write-up says Win95/98, though a 2002 ought to be ok on WinXP - a lot more likely than V5, which Intuit lump into "versions 1-5" under "older versions".
I guess it's 95/98 MINIMUM - or generically "any 32 bit version of Windows"
